Can You Schedule Posts on Bluesky? Yes, but Not in the App

Can you schedule posts on Bluesky? Yes, with a third-party tool. The app has no scheduler as of October 2026. How tools connect, post limits, and steps.

Yes, you can schedule posts on Bluesky, but not inside the Bluesky app. As of 7 October 2026, the official app has drafts but no scheduler. To schedule a post, you use a third-party Bluesky scheduler. It connects to your account and publishes the post at the time you pick.

Every Bluesky fact below comes from Bluesky's own blog, developer docs and app release notes, checked on 7 October 2026. The Schedule & Chill details come from our own code.

#Quick answer

  • Does the Bluesky app schedule posts? No. Drafts arrived in February 2026. Scheduling has not.
  • How do people schedule Bluesky posts? With a third-party scheduler, a browser extension, or a small script that uses the Bluesky API.
  • Is it safe? Connect with an app password or Bluesky's own sign-in screen. Never type your main password into a tool.
  • Limits to plan for: 300 characters, up to 4 images or 1 video per post, and alt text on each image.
  • Threads? The Bluesky app has a thread composer, but it cannot schedule. Some schedulers post threads. Schedule & Chill does not yet.

#Does Bluesky have a built-in scheduler?

No. Here is the evidence, with dates, so you can check it yourself.

So you can save a draft in the app, but it will not publish itself. Someone still has to open it and tap Post.

#How Bluesky schedulers connect to your account

A scheduler needs permission to post as you. Bluesky offers two ways to give it.

App password OAuth (sign in with Bluesky)
What you do Create a separate password in Bluesky settings and paste it into the tool Approve the tool on a Bluesky sign-in screen
Does the tool see your main password? No No
What Bluesky's docs say it is for Bots and command-line tools Apps with their own login

Bluesky's developer docs say: "Applications with their own end-user login flow should implement OAuth. Single-purpose applications such as bots or command-line tools may use app password authentication instead." The API guide adds: "Use an app password rather than your main account password."

In practice, many schedulers still connect with an app password, and it works. Schedule & Chill is one of them. It uses the app password once to open a login session. It does not store the app password.

Tools that schedule Bluesky posts. Buffer, Typefully, Mixpost and Postiz all say on their own pages that they schedule Bluesky posts (checked 7 October 2026). Buffer is the tool Bluesky itself announced as a partner in 2024. Browser extensions and small open-source scripts do the same job. If you post to several networks, see how to post to multiple accounts at once.

#Bluesky post limits that matter when you schedule

A scheduled post fails, or looks wrong, when it breaks a limit nobody checked. Here are Bluesky's limits and what Schedule & Chill does today.

Limit Bluesky Schedule & Chill today
Text length 300 characters, counted as "graphemes", so one emoji counts as 1 (post spec) 300, counted the same way. The composer blocks longer posts.
Images per post 4 in the standard image format (image spec) 4
Image file size Up to 2 MB each in the current spec. It was 1 MB before, and some Bluesky docs still say 1 MB. Shrinks each image to under 1 MB before upload
Video 1 per post, up to 300 MB, MP4 through the API (video spec) Not supported yet
Alt text A separate field on every image and video Sent from the Alt Text field of each file in your media library
Links The posting app must mark them up, or they show as plain text you cannot click Marks them up, so links are clickable
Link preview card Not automatic. The posting app must fetch the page title and image and attach them. No card. The link is clickable, with no preview.
@mentions The posting app must mark them up Marks them up
Hashtags The posting app must mark them up Posted as plain text. Not clickable yet.
Threads Each reply is linked to the post above it Single posts only

Some of these limits changed recently, so older guides may be out of date:

  • Video length. Bluesky launched video in September 2024 with a 60-second limit. App release 1.99.0 (March 2025) enabled 3-minute videos. Release 1.130.0 (August 2026) added 10-minute uploads behind a feature gate, so only some accounts had them. Release 1.132.0 (September 2026) removed that gate. If a 10-minute video fails, update the app and check your account first.
  • More than 4 photos. In 2026 Bluesky added a newer "gallery" post format (release 1.123.0). Its spec tells apps to allow up to 10 images for now. Schedule & Chill still posts the 4-image format.
  • Video rules for your account. Bluesky's video docs say accounts hosted by Bluesky must verify their email before they upload video, and there is a daily cap on video posts.

Bluesky stores links, mentions and hashtags as separate "facets" next to the text. The rich text docs say the posting app must build them. The posts guide shows link cards work the same way.

Test any scheduler before you trust it. Schedule one post with a link, an @mention and a hashtag. When it goes live, open it on Bluesky and tap each one. Then you know exactly what that tool supports.

#How to schedule posts on Bluesky with Schedule & Chill

These are the steps in the product today. The full guide with error messages is in Connect Bluesky.

  1. Create an app password in Bluesky. Go to Settings → Privacy and security → App passwords, or open bsky.app/settings/app-passwords. Add a new one and name it "Schedule & Chill". Copy it. It looks like xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx.
  2. Connect Bluesky. In Schedule & Chill, click Connected Accounts in the left menu. Under Add a channel, find Bluesky and click Connect.
  3. Enter your details. Type your handle in Your handle, for example you.bsky.social. Paste the app password in App password. Click Connect Bluesky. You see "Bluesky account connected successfully".
  4. Set your time zone. New accounts start in UTC. Change it in Profile and time zone so 9:00 means your 9:00.
  5. Write the post. Click Create Post and select your Bluesky channel. The counter under the text box shows how many of the 300 characters are left. If you also post to LinkedIn, give Bluesky its own shorter text in its own tab.
  6. Add images (optional). Add up to 4. To add alt text, open the file in your media library and fill in Alt Text.
  7. Pick a time. Click the field under Schedule (optional) and choose a date and time. Or click Add to queue to use your next open posting slot.
  8. Click Schedule Post. The post now waits in the Scheduled tab of the Posts page and on the calendar.

To stop Schedule & Chill from posting for you, delete the app password in Bluesky.

#Posting live vs a scheduler vs the API or MCP route

Route Best for Cost Your effort Watch out for
Post live in the Bluesky app Replies, news, live events Free Every day You must be online at the right time
Save a draft in the app, post it later One or two posts you want to finish later Free Low A draft never publishes by itself
Third-party scheduler Regular posting, or the same post on several networks Free to paid Low Check threads, video and link cards before you commit
Your own script on the Bluesky API Developers, bots Free, plus hosting High You build and run the timer yourself
A scheduler's API or MCP server AI assistants like Claude, or your own app Depends on the tool Medium Review AI-written posts before they go live

An MCP server lets an AI assistant schedule posts through a scheduler you already use. For how that works and how to stop a bad post, see can AI agents post on social media.

#Who does not need a Bluesky scheduler

  • You post a few times a week and are online anyway. Post live and save the setup time.
  • Most of what you do on Bluesky is reply. A scheduler cannot hold a conversation for you.
  • You post about live events. Sports, news and launches move fast. Bluesky's own January 2026 post says the app "lights up when things happen in the world."
  • You just want to finish a post later. Use the app's drafts. They are free and already there.

You need a scheduler when you post on fixed days, when you batch a week of posts at once, or when the same update goes to Bluesky and other networks. The same question for another platform is answered in can you schedule posts on TikTok.

#Scheduling Bluesky with Schedule & Chill

Schedule & Chill is a scheduler for posting the same content to several platforms from one place. It is free: 2 social accounts, 500 posts a month and 400 MB uploads (pricing). Today it publishes to LinkedIn, Bluesky, Mastodon, YouTube and TikTok. It also has an MCP server, so Claude, ChatGPT and other AI tools can write and schedule posts for you, plus a REST API.

On Bluesky it posts text, up to 4 images with alt text, clickable links and real @mentions. It does not yet post video, threads, link preview cards or clickable hashtags, and it does not work with self-hosted Bluesky servers. If you need one of those today, pick a tool that lists it on its Bluesky page.

#Frequently Asked Questions

Does Bluesky have a scheduler? No. As of 7 October 2026, the official Bluesky app has drafts (added in February 2026) but no way to publish a post at a later time. Bluesky's release notes up to version 1.134.0 add no scheduler. To schedule, use a third-party tool that connects to your account.

Is it safe to give a scheduler my Bluesky password? Do not give any tool your main password. Create an app password in Bluesky under Settings → Privacy and security → App passwords and use that instead, or use a tool that connects through Bluesky's own sign-in screen. An app password is separate from your real password, and you can delete it in Bluesky settings at any time.

Can you schedule Bluesky threads? Not in the Bluesky app. The app has had a thread composer since November 2024, but it has no scheduler for threads or single posts. Some third-party schedulers say on their Bluesky pages that they schedule threads, for example Postiz and Buffer. Schedule & Chill posts single Bluesky posts only.

What is the Bluesky character limit? 300 characters per post. Bluesky counts "graphemes", the characters you see, so an emoji counts as 1 even when it is built from several code points. Bluesky's April 2025 post about a new 299-character limit was an April Fools' joke.

Where can I see my scheduled Bluesky posts? Not in the Bluesky app. Scheduled posts live in your scheduling tool until they publish. In Schedule & Chill, open the Posts page and click the Scheduled tab, or open the calendar.

Why won't my Bluesky account connect to a scheduler? First check that you pasted an app password from Bluesky settings, not your normal password. Then check your handle is spelled right, for example you.bsky.social. If both are right, Bluesky may be having a problem, so wait a minute and try again. Schedule & Chill also does not support accounts on self-hosted Bluesky servers yet.
