# Connect X

X (formerly Twitter) is not free like Schedule & Chill's other channels. It is a paid add-on: **$9/month**, on top of your regular plan.

## Why X costs extra

X charges an API fee for every post we send — $0.015 per post, and $0.20 for a post with a link. Every other channel in Schedule & Chill is free to publish to. X is the only one that costs us money per post, so it is the only paid add-on.

## What the add-on includes

A **link post** is any post with a link in the caption **or** in the first comment. Either way it counts toward the 20-link limit. Link posts also count toward the 100-post total — they are not on top of it.

Your period follows your **subscription's billing cycle**. Usage resets when your subscription renews. Deleting a post does not give the post back — it already cost us the API fee.

## Buy the X add-on

1. Go to **Settings → Billing**.
2. Click **Add X — $9/month**. You can also click **Add X** on **Connected Channels**.
3. Complete checkout with Stripe.
4. Connect your X account like any other channel — see [Connect a social channel](/help/channels/connect).

Buying the add-on also adds one extra channel slot, so X never takes a slot away from your free channels.

## What an X post can include

- Up to **280 characters**. A link counts as 23 characters and an emoji as 2, no matter how long they really are.
- Up to **4 images**, or **1 video** — not both.
- A first comment, added right after the post.

## When you reach the limit

If a post would go over your 100-post or 20-link-post limit, that X post fails with a clear message and shows in **Needs attention**. Your other channels keep publishing normally — only X is blocked.

To fix it:

- Wait for your usage to reset at renewal, or
- Remove the link, if you hit the link limit rather than the post limit.

## Cancel the add-on

1. Go to **Settings → Billing**.
2. Click **Manage or cancel**. This opens Stripe's billing portal.
3. Cancel there.

You keep X until the end of the period you already paid for. After that, your X channel stays connected, but posts to it are refused until you add the add-on again. You do not lose the channel or its post history.

## Using X from an AI tool or the API

Scheduling to an X channel without the add-on returns the error `x_addon_required`. Call `get_capabilities` to see your current X usage — it includes an `x_addon` block with what you have used and what is left this period.
